Most Apple IIgs users these days use other systems too. Both Mac OS X and Windows, as well as Linux, have the concept of "contextual menus", where right-clicking or clicking with the control key down will bring up a menu of special items that depends on where you click and what you're doing.

SideClick brings contextual menus to the Apple IIgs!

downloadnow

SideClick provides a simple API for Apple IIgs applications, inits, desk accessories, and any other type of program to add options to a contextual menu based on whatever criteria it wishes. SideClick includes the SideClick init itself, four sample SideClick aware inits (with complete source code in C), and API reference documentation in ASCII text format.

The sample inits include the clock, restart and shutdown, and hide/show menu bar inits seen in the screen shot above. Also included is a new Word Count init, that lets you easily get a count of the characters, words, lines, and bytes used for any TextEdit control in any application or desk accessory.

SideClick is free, and can be included free of license fees with other Apple IIgs software that makes use of it, if an appropriate license notice is included (see the documentation for details).

If you're a developer interested in taking advantage of SideClick, you can also download a PDF of the API specification.
